At least 35 small pyramids, along with graves, have been discovered clustered closely together at a site called Sedeinga in Sudan. Discovered between 2009 and 2012, researchers are surprised at how densely the pyramids are concentrated. In one field season alone, in 2011, the research team discovered 13 pyramids packed into roughly 5,381 square feet (500 square meters), or slightly larger than an NBA basketball court. They date back around 2,000 years to a time when a kingdom named Kush flourished in Sudan. Kush shared a border with Egypt and, later on, the Roman Empire. The desire of the kingdom's people to build pyramids was apparently influenced by Egyptian funerary architecture. madOne

Air Jordan XX8 “Green Camo”

After the UNC Tarheels played in the “Blue Camo” colorway last night, we see official images of the Air Jordan XX8 “Green Camo”. The divisive shroud is covered in green hues, while the shank plate and midsole remain black. The white outsole is different from the translucent sole on the “Blue Camo,” but the inner portion keeps the electric green coloring similar to other colorways we have seen. The “Green Camo” XX8 will release on Saturday, February 16.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian bypass airport security

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Two celebrity passengers - reported by newspapers to be Kanye West and Kim Kardashian - were allowed to bypass airport security to catch a flight at New York's JFK International Airport, but were later given a private screening, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration said on Wednesday. An airline employee escorted two unnamed celebrity travelers on Tuesday through a non-public area "in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight," TSA said in a statement. It did not say whether the two entered the plane. The New York Post and Daily News reported the incident involved rapper West and reality TV star Kardashian. Representatives of West and Kardashian, who announced in December they are expecting a baby, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
"The airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travelers to bypass the TSA security checkpoint," the statement said. "TSA officials learned of the violation and conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jetway." The couple was allowed onto the plane, and the entire incident delayed the flight for 50 minutes. MadOne...

'Star Wars' spin-offs: A young Han Solo movie, and a Boba Fett film
Yesterday, The Walt Disney Co. unveiled plans to make a number of spin-off movies set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — in addition to the post-Return of the Jedi trilogy that had already been announced. Entertainment Weekly has learned details on two of the spin-off projects: A young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.
Several sources close to the projects confirmed this was the direction the development was taking, although each cautioned it’s still very early in the process and, well, the deal could always be altered futher. Lucasfilm and Disney declined to comment on the information. The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original.
The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit. Exactly who would play him isn’t much of a complication – in the original trilogy, he never took off his helmet. And in the prequels, we learned he was the son of the original stormtrooper clone, played by Temuera Morrison, who’s still the right age for the part if his services were required.
In addition to bringing back two fan-favorite characters as the leads of their own films, the Han Solo and Boba Fett projects would also allow Darth Vader, in full-on black death-metal gear, to return as a villain, since placing the spin-offs within the original trilogy would mean he is still alive and hissing. That timeline would also open the door for a return from visit with everyone’s favorite degenerate slug-like gangster, Jabba the Hutt. EW
DHS Purchases 21.6 Million More Rounds of Ammunition
The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6
million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has
already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone, figures
which have stoked concerns that the federal agency is preparing for
civil unrest. A solicitation posted yesterday on
the Fed Bid website details how the bullets are required for the DHS
Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico. The solicitation asks for 10 million pistol cartridge
.40 caliber 165 Grain, jacketed Hollow point bullets (100 quantities of
100,000 rounds) and 10 million 9mm 115 grain jacketed hollow point
bullets (100 quantities of 100,000 rounds). The document also lists a requirement for 1.6 million pistol cartridge 9mm ball bullets (40 quantities of 40,000 rounds).
An approximation of how many rounds of ammunition the
DHS has now secured over the last 10 months stands at around 1.625
billion. In March 2012, ATK announced that they had agreed to provide
the DHS with a maximum of 450 million bullets over four years, a story that prompted questions about why the feds were buying ammunition in such large quantities. To put that in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month.
Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over
the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.
While Americans are being browbeaten with rhetoric about the necessity
to give up semi-automatic firearms in the name of preventing school
shootings, the federal government is arming itself to the teeth with
both ammunition and guns. Last September, the DHS purchased no less than 7,000 fully automatic assault rifles, labeling them “Personal Defense Weapons.” Power Your Mind. MadOne
