HALLOWS Has $24 Mil Midnight
Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I is officially off to the box office race today and while it's expected to bring in loads of cash (and possible records), there's at least one achievement it couldn't quite capture in its early launch. The midnight-preview record eluded it.
With this first half of "Deathly Hallows" taking in $24 million from 3,700 midnight shows across the nation last night, the midnight screening record still belongs to Summit Entertainment's Twilight franchise. The late-night preview numbers falls short of the previous record-holders The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($30 mil) and its predecessor The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($26 mil), which opened during last year's Thanksgiving holidays. I'll provide more information as it comes in and on Sunday's box office report.
