Chapstick-Sized Camcorder Captures Action Scenes

About the size of a tube of Chapstick, the Replay XD is a durable action camcorder designed for capturing users in action The POV cam can be mounted to a skateboard, dashboard or helmet (without the coalminer look) to record up to 110 minutes of video. Two-button operation for on and off with vibrational feedback means the learning curve for this device is close to zero.

Replay XD comes with a flat mount that swivels and a clip mount that tilts. The omnidirectional built-in mic has been designed to alleviate wind-noise and distortion. Techwise, it's got a 640 x 480 resolution, 1.3-megapixel CMOS, and comes with a 4MB microSD card that holds about two hours of video, and a Li-ion rechargeable battery.  Camera can be fully charged in about an hour. Its USB cable connects to both PC and Mac systems for viewing footage. Price $190, includes camera, mounts, chargers for home and vehicle, mic cover, cables and cases. Available online. HTC Announces Flyer: 7-inch Android Tablet

The HTC Flyer is a 7-inch tablet in the vein of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, but the HTC tablet is much more powerful. For starters, it has a 1.5GHz processor. The processor isn't dual-core like many of the competing tablet processors, but that amount of speed should still be more than sufficient for Android. Furthermore, 1 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage should help things along nicely.

Other specs include a microSD card slot for storage expansion, 5 megapixel camera in back, 1.3 megapixel camera in front and a 4000mAh battery rated for four hours of continuous video playback, which is actually the least impressive thing about the HTC Flyer. HTC also included a few surprises with the Flyer. First of all, it comes with the OnLive cloud gaming service installed, which makes it possible to play console games without a console over an Internet connection.

HTC said the Flyer will be released in the second quarter of 2011, but did not give a price. TechNews Daily

Coming Soon to Theaters : X-Men: First Class

Plot Summary: X-MEN FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Rocky Mountain Pictures and director Paul Johansson have revealed the first trailer for Atlas Shrugged: Part I, the upcoming adaptation of Ayn Rand's 1957 novel. The film will star Taylor Schilling, Grant Bowler, Matthew Marsden, Michael Lerner, Graham Beckel, Edi Gathegi and Jsu Garcia. Produced on a budget of just $5 million---the first part of a new film franchise---the release was helmed by Johansson ("One Tree Hill") based on a screenplay by Patrick O'Toole.

Plot Concept: Dagny Taggart (Schilling) runs Taggart Transcontinental, the largest remaining railroad company in America, with intelligence, courage and integrity, despite the systematic disappearance of her best and most competent workers. She is drawn to industrialist Henry Rearden (Bowler), one of the few men whose genius and commitment to his own ideas match her own. Rearden's super-strength metal alloy, Rearden Metal, holds the promise that innovation can overcome the slide into anarchy. Using the untested Rearden Metal, they rebuild the critical Taggart rail line in Colorado and pave the way for oil titan Ellis Wyatt (Beckel) to feed the flame of a new American Renaissance.

Hope rises again, when Dagny and Rearden discover the design of a revolutionary motor based on static electricity - in an abandoned engine factory - more proof to the sinister theory that the "men of the mind" (thinkers, industrialists, scientists, artists, and other innovators) are "on strike" and vanishing from society.

Atlas Shrugged: Part I will hit theaters April 15, 2011.

Coming Soon to Theaters : 11-11-11

He also has the Mother's Day remake hitting theaters on April 1, 2011. He revealed some snapshots and this first teaser on his official blog.

Plot Concept: The story is inspired by the real-life organization that believes the recurrence of the numbers 11:11 are of spiritual significance and a link to spirit guardians. The script specificially deals with 11 gates of Heaven and how, on November 11th, 2011, the final gate will open for 49 minutes.

11-11-11 is aptly scheduled to be released November 11, 2011.

Is Apple Working on a Smaller, Cheaper iPhone?

Making things smaller and cheaper worked several times for the iPod — but will Apple do the same thing for the iPhone? Industry sources indicate we may soon see the equivalent of an iPhone Nano. Bloomberg cites several sources who say Apple is indeed developing a smaller, cheaper iPhone that can compete better with cheaper Android phones. The goal, reportedly, is to create an iPhone that will retail for around $200 without a subsidy from carrier networks.

At first glance, this seems like something antithetical to Apple CEO Steve Jobs' design philosophy. And yet, it also makes some sense. Android handsets are getting cheaper all the time, and while the iPhone is continuously innovating and adding new features, many consumers (especially international consumers who often buy the phone unsubsidized) can't afford one.

A smaller, cheaper iPhone would mean losing some of the lauded features of the current iPhone 4, the first of which would likely be the ultra-high resolution Retina Display. However, the sources say the new iPhone would have some developments of its own, including a dual-mode chipset that would work on all networks (CDMA and GSM).

The smaller iPhone would also get rid of SIM cards altogether. Apple is reportedly working on "Universal SIM" technology that would eliminate the need for the tiny piece of plastic in GSM phones (AT&T and T-Mobile) that tracks user info. This would be an important feature in a dual-CDMA/GSM phone. TechNews Daily

Social networking created for DJs, by DJs

DJ N.I.N.O far left front

You can Tweet to, friend-request, “like,” and even poke at your idols on basic social networking sites—whether celebrity, DJ, musician or the odd YouTube hero—but that doesn’t mean they’ll respond, or even care. But for artists and DJs on top of their game, an exclusive social network (for them, by them) acts as the meeting ground for serious music aficionados to connect, break in new music and provide support and promotion for one another. Their moniker may not do them justice, but their pride in their online community does. They are the Bumsquad.

Founded in 2004 by Latin Prince, the Croatian DJ and producer famed for his work on Bay Area and Los Angeles radio stations, BumSquadDJz.com has reached an international level, acquiring 4-6 million hits monthly. The global team of scene-scourers—including well-known artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Chamillionaire and Naughty by Nature who allow fellow Bums to be the first to expose their music—represent New York to Croatia, and for the past two years, Las Vegas.

A collective of established Vegas DJs such as Crime, Mika Gold, N.I.N.O. and even DJ Scene have worked with, grown through and today continue to rep the 702 chapter. They throw “takeover” events on a regular basis at venues throughout the Valley. “We’re independent and work separately,” says regional PR representative Dustin Amato (pictured, center). “But in the end, the goal is to build our own network so we can gain more support, more ‘hail to the brothers’ and build up our local followers.”

Wanna be a bum? Regional managers accept online applications for determined artists, DJs and radio personalities. Words of advice from Amato: “Establish yourself in the game and show dedication and a desire to want to improve your ability. You can’t just come in and start scraping out food from the bowl without putting any in. We’re a team, a family, and we expect everyone to give as much as they get.” By Natalie Holbrook
