Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015

Yes Maniacs, we got the message and heard the news as well (16 emails to the office). Disney, the studio that a few years ago acquired Marvel Comics, has just bought Lucasfilm Ltd. (for $4.05 Billion). This isn’t the only big news. Disney and Lucasfilm Ltd have also announced a SEVENTH Star Wars movie! It is currently titled Episode 7 and scheduled for a 2015 (probably in May) release. What follows Episode 7? Well, Episodes 8 and 9 of course!

This also means that Disney has also acquired the rights to the Indiana Jones franchise as well.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement that “the acquisition is a great fit and will help preserve and grow the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. The last 'Star Wars' movie release was 2005's 'Revenge of the Sith' -- and we believe there's substantial pent-up demand," Iger said.

MSN also reported that “Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become the division's president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new ‘Star Wars’ films”.

George Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

Does that mean George will pass really pass the torch on? He’ll probably remain a producer too, but if he really means “passing the torch” who will direct Episode 7? Better yet, will any of the Timothy Zahn novels be part of the new trilogy? So many questions and 2015 is only 2 month and 2 years away! Mania.com
