BOX OFFICE REPORT June 10th - 12th Weekend

Initial tracking had J.J. Abrams’ latest thriller premiering somewhere between $25-$30 million so its $37 million debut certainly performed up to speed for Paramount Pictures. Another positive sign for the studio was that the sci-fi thriller found more money on Saturday ($14 mil) in comparison to its first day gross of $12.2 million, translating to positive word-of-mouth.

Following in 2nd place was last weekend’s champion, X-Men: First Class. The 20th Century Fox prequel tale found another $25 million over its second frame, increasing its domestic tally to $98.9 million after 10 days of release. The Matthew Vaughn release fell 55% from its opening tally which is the second best sophomore effort for any X-Men film behind only X2: X-Men United. That one dropped only 53% back in 2003.

In 3rd place we have Warner Bros. Pictures’ comedic sequel The Hangover Part II, which continues to grab amazing numbers in both the domestic and international arena. It managed to find another $18.5 million here in the states and $38.3 million on 7,200 screens in 55 foreign markets. Mania.com
