EVIL DEAD Remake Confirmed

Ghost House Pictures has announced their plans to remake the cult-classic tale, The Evil Dead. The production company that's run by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell---the director, producer and star of the original franchise---confirmed they're all returning to bring the story back for modern audiences across the globe. This time around, the trio will be bringing in director Fede Alvarez (Panic Attack) to co-write and direct the remake and Diablo Cody is also on board to revise the script. Raimi, Tapert and Campbell will serve as producers while their Ghost House Pictures partners Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce.

"We are committed to making this movie and are inspired by the enduring popularity and enthusiasm for the Evil Dead series." Raimi's Ghost House announced in their statement. "We can't wait to scare a new generation of moviegoers using filmmaking techniques that were not available to us thirty years ago as well as Fede bringing a fresh eye to the film’s original elements."

The movie centered on five college kids vacationing in a cabin in the woods who unleash evil spirits. Campbell played a student named Ash who became the lone survivor and in subsequent movies, which became darkly comic in tone, turned into a chainsaw-armed killer of the dead. It is unclear at this time whether Ash will return for the movie or if Campbell would even reprise the role. Mania.com
