BOX OFFICE REPORT July 15th - 17th Weekend

Records are made to be broken. That’s likely something the boy who lived would be explaining to the Dark Knight today after the latter watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 2 finish its first weekend with $168.6 million. Hitting nine more theaters than the Batman sequel did in 2008, the final installment in Warner Bros. Pictures’ blockbuster franchise conjured up enough sales to beat out the previous record of $158.4 million to become the biggest opening weekend of all-time.

After securing the victory for its two weekends across the globe, Paramount and DreamWorks’ Transformers: Dark of the Moon followed in 2nd place by pulling in another $21.2 million. The film’s third frame numbers has increased its domestic tally to $302.8 million, the first film to cross the $300 million mark in domestic sales. With the pic also grabbing an amazing $460 million overseas so far, the autobots have locked down $762.8 million in global sales after only 19 days of release. The budget for Michael Bay’s latest action effort is reportedly around $195 million.

Following in 3rd place is Warner Bros. and New Line’s R-rated comedy, Horrible Bosses. The flick laughed up another $17.6 million over its sophomoric frame, dropping only 37% from its debut performance and increasing its total to $60.0 million after 10 days of release. The latest numbers has almost doubled its budget of just $35 million.  Mania.com
