Samsung announced on Monday (Jan. 3) that it has sold 10 million of its Android-powered Galaxy S Smartphones in the seven months since the device was launched. The world's second-largest maker of wireless handsets set a lofty goal to meet this number last year as a part of an effort to compete with Apple's iPhone.
The device got off to a strong start right away. Samsung shipped more than one million units in the United States after its first month on the market. Samsung aims to double sales of its smartphones this year.
