After making waves at the American Film Market the Weinstein Company and producer Timur Bekmambetov have found a new director for Apollo 18, with Spanish helmer Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego stepping into replace the exited Trevor Cawood. "Apollo" recently caused some waves in the trendy new "found-footage" genre by causing two other projects to be dropped. One was Roland Emmerich's alien-invasion tale The Zone while the second was Warner Bros. Pictures' Dark Moon, which was eventually saved by Dark Castle.
With the tale scripted out by Brian Miller, the Weinstein Company hopes to shoot "Apollo" immediately in hopes to have it enter theaters next March before Oren Peli reveals his sci-fi found footage movie Area 51. The race is on...
Plot Concept: Apollo 18 is purported to be footage from a secret and covert mission to the moon which ends up in revealing evidence of new lifeforms. According to sources, the majority of the story takes place in the rocket in between the Earth and the Moon. Mania.com
